UNESCO’s anti-Israel bias appears to have no limits. The United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture agency or UNESCO voted to condemn Israeli actions in Jerusalem. On Tuesday, UNESCO, during its meeting in Poland, passed a resolution submitted by the council’s Arab states rejecting Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem. It is ironic that an international agency, with a focus on “Culture,” would attempt to rob Israel of its ancestral culture; an ancestral culture dating back thousands of years.
Israeli Ambassador to the U.N. Danny Danon condemned the vote’s wording as “disgraceful” and stressed that the Old City holds sites “the most sacred” for the Jews.
In response to the resolution, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “the decision reached at the UN yesterday is distorted and shameful, but we shall overcome it. The decision was made that makes the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City an ‘occupied territory.’ That’s delusional.”
Over the past few months UNESCO has been making headlines due to their continuous anti-Israel bias and resolution frenzy, where the sole purpose of these so-called resolutions, are to sever the historical ties that the Jewish people have with their ancestral homeland.
UNESCO resolution passed last October ignored Jewish ties to the Western Wall and Temple Mount sites. In May, UNESCO approved a resolution that called on Israel to rescind any “legislative and administrative measures and actions” it has taken to “alter the character and status” of Jerusalem and rejected the idea of a “basic law” in Jerusalem, based off of a 1980 Knesset law, which implies that the city is one unified whole and governed solely by Israel.
The UNESCO World Heritage Council is expected to vote Friday on a resolution which would declare the Old City of Hebron — including the Tomb of the Patriarchs — a Palestinian “World Heritage Site in danger.”
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley on Friday sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova asking them to oppose the resolution that would designate Hebron as a Palestinian heritage site.
Since the days of Abraham and Sarah, the Jewish people have lived, breathed and built the land of Israel. And when the Jewish people were forced to leave their homeland, prayers were instituted by our leaders, recited multiple times daily, that pronounced our desire to return home. The Jewish people have returned home and we will never again leave!
