Officials from the United Nations and the PA sign the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF)
In a recent report from the UN Watch, it was discovered that earlier this year officials of the United Nations signed an agreement which would allocate approximately $1.3 billion dollars from various United Nations institutions to projects engineered to bolster and embolden the UN’s anti-Israel agenda.
In particular, there are 4 “Strategic Priorities” or goals that the UN intend to invest the $1.3 billion toward, according to the UN document:
- Strategic Priority 1: Supporting Palestine’s path to Independence
- Strategic Priority 2: Supporting equal access to accountable, effective and responsive democratic governance for all Palestinians
- Strategic priority 3: Leaving No One Behind: Supporting sustainable and inclusive economic development
- Strategic priority 4: Leaving No One Behind: social development and protection
Note that in the document, the UN’s first benchmark for success will be when “human rights mechanisms are increasingly engaged to hold Israel accountable for its obligations under international law.”
The document makes no references to the Arab’s violations of international law and human rights, nor does it specify that the $1.3 billion in funding should be applied to humanitarian assistance. Rather, the UN document states that the money should be used for developing programs that support “Palestine’s path to independence.”
“There is no other example or precedent of the U.N. funding, training and advising one side of a conflict to pursue legal advocacy against another side,” said Hillel Neuer, executive director of Geneva-based UN Watch, a group whose stated mission is to “monitor the performance of the United Nations by the yardstick of its own charter.”
“For some reason, however, when it comes to Israel, the UN development agencies cross the bright red line from humanitarian assistance to political advocacy,” he said.
Although the amount of funding allocated by the UN towards overtly anti-Israel initiatives is unprecedented, Shurat Hadin’s Darshan-Leitner said the world body’s singling out of Israel and misuse of funds were “no big surprise.”
“The UN is misappropriating, once again, its donors’ funds and directing them into projects that help the PLO target and attack the Jewish state, instead of for humanitarian causes,” said Darshan-Leitner.
Unfortunately, anti-Israel declarations and actions taken by the United Nations are disproportionate and frequent. Please share this information with your friends so that the world will know what Israel faces at the United Nations and it’s subsidiary organizations.
