Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldier, 19-year old Sergeant Ron Yitzhak Kokia, was killed Thursday night. The young soldier was a resident of Tel Aviv and was serving in in the Nahal Brigade. Sgt. Kokia was at a bus stop, in the southern city of Arad, when he was stabbed in what Israeli authorities are speculating was a terrorist attack. Ron Yitzhak Kukia tried to call for help after having been stabbed, collapsing on top of a car. Kukia was posthumously promoted from the rank of corporal to sergeant, Ynetnews reported.

An eyewitness recounted the incident saying, “Someone came up to the soldier from behind and stabbed him. I saw him lying down (on the ground). My friend called me over when it happened, he tried to stop the bleeding with a towel.”

According to Arad Mayor Nissan Ben-Hemo, “The working assumption is that this was a terror attack, but it still has yet to be determined unequivocally.”

Ron Yitzhak Kukia’s funeral took place today at 12:00 in the Kiryat Shaul Military Cemetery in Tel Aviv. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Ron Yitzhak Kukia.

Rock-Throwing Incidents Samaria

On Thursday morning, Jewish teenagers celebrating a Bar Mitzvah (13th birthday) and their two adult chaperones were attacked by local Arabs, near the community of Esh Kodedsh (Samaria). The attacker first began throwing heavy stones at the boys. In an attempt to avoid harm and de-escalate the situation, one of the chaperones called the local IDF brigade to come to their assistance and then took the boys to hide in a nearby cave. While in the cave, a mob of local Arabs surrounded the cave and sprayed pepper spray into the crevice, with the intention of drawing out the boys out. In defense, one of the chaperones fired his gun at the attackers and fatally injured one. The Arab mob dispersed and thankfully a lynching was avoided.

The two chaperones were lightly injured by the stone-throwing and were evacuated to Beilinson Hospital for medical treatment.

Israeli Defense Minister, Avigdor Lieberman said Friday, “Yesterday, rioters from the village of Qusra set out to lynch children on a Bar Mitzvah trip in Samaria. The use of weapons for self-defense is a moral value that is protected by law in every democratic government. I extend my thanks and my gratitude to the escort who saved the hikers from the real and immediate danger to their lives.

On Friday, a resident of Shiloh and his family were targeted by Arab terrorists in a rock-throwing incident. The Shiloh resident was traveling with his wife and four children near the village of Wadi Harmiya – between Shiloh and Ofra. The driver told 0404 News, “The children panicked. One of the children identified the terrorists and immediately afterwards a large stone hit the window. ” The driver is has filed a complaint with the police.

May we experience a more quiet and peaceful week ahead here in Israel.
