Amar’e Stoudemire is both a big-time Israel supporter and big-time basketball legend. Amar’e Stoudemire has been an NBA (National Basketball Association) All-Star 6 times during his basketball career in the United States. Stoudemire, a US citizen, signed a 2-year contract with Jerusalem’s basketball team Hapoel, in 2016. At a press conference before the basketball star headed to Israel he said, “The Scripture speaks about Jerusalem as a holy place, and I can feel that whenever I’m in the city.”
During his first season with Hapoel he helped his team win the Israeli Basketball League Cup by beating the rival Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball Club. He retired from basketball last year. Today, Amar’e Stoudemire is a part owner of Hapoel, a fact that he proudly showcases on his website, www.amarestoudemire.com.
The basketball star’s support for Israel’s basketball enterprise is not the only way in which Stoudemire expresses his love for Israel. This past Tuesday, Stoudemire launched The Stoudemire Wines Collection at a news conference in New York. According to the JTA, the line will be made up of wine made Israel that will be kosher-for-
“It’s a blessing for me and my family to be able to produce such great wines from a land like the land of Israel, so we’re constantly counting our blessings for that,” Stoudemire told reporters at the Jewish National Fund House on the Upper East Side.
Stoudemire, 35, said he had been in talks with the Israel Wine Producers Association for three years about making an Israeli wine and realized the opportunity when he relocated to the country in 2016 to play for Hapoel Jerusalem, according to The Forward.
Other noteworthy Israeli events that Amar’e Stoudemire has participated in, include, IN THE PAINT Series Event at The Israel Museum in Jerusalem and Zoom With Amar’e, an event which Stoudemire hosted at the Ticho House in Jerusalem, honoring emerging artists.
