US Ambassador to UN, Nikki Haley addresses the UN Security Council on December 18, 2017

On Monday, US Ambassador to UN, Nikki Haley vetoed an anti-Israel and anti-Trump draft resolution proposed by Egypt that would effectively negate the announcement and subsequent steps taken by US President Donald Trump to move the United States embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The main portion of the draft resolution reads, “that any decisions and actions which purport to have altered, the character, status or demographic composition of the Holy City of Jerusalem have no legal effect, are null and void and must be rescinded in compliance with relevant resolutions of the Security Council.”

The draft text also called on all States, “to refrain from the establishment of diplomatic missions in the Holy City of Jerusalem.” A negative vote – or veto – from one of the Council’s five permanent members – China, France, Russia, United Kingdom and the United States – blocks passage of a resolution. And since the United States vetoed the draft resolution, the draft was altogether rejected from becoming a resolution.

Nikki Haley’s responded with the following statement: “The United States will not be told by any country where we can put our embassy.” (Watch the clip below for Nikki Haley’s response at the UN.)
