Israel finally published the full list of organizations whose pro-BDS activists will be prohibited from entering the country. This list, dubbed the “BDS blacklist,” was released by the Strategic Affairs Ministry on Sunday.
Interior Minister Aryeh Dery said, “These people are trying to exploit the law and our hospitality to act against Israel and to defame the country. I will act against this by every means.”
Due to their advocacy for the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement against Israel, members of these 20 listed organizations will not be allowed to enter the country. “We have shifted from defense to offense,” Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan said. “The boycott organizations need to know that the State of Israel will act against them and not allow [them] to enter its territory to harm its citizens.”
But as Lee Kaplan of Stop the ISM (the anti-Israel International Solidarity Movement) Organization points out, this list is partial at best. He writes in Arutz Sheva, “An informed look at the list shows that right out of the starting gate, the list is going to snatch defeat from the hands of victory by not including some of the biggest and most damaging BDS groups in the United States.”
He goes on to explain that the 72 million dollar budget Israel received for this initiative will not put a dent in the “tsunami of BDS lies and distortions claiming genocide, human right abuses, child abuse and other calumnies that BDS promulgates on a massive scale, frequently subsidized by U.S. tax dollars.” And sadly he is right. People involved in BDS activism are naively manipulated into thinking they are being advocates for human rights while helping to support and promote terrorists.
Kaplan goes on to bulk up the BDS Blacklist released by naming 29 very active BDS groups (most notably, International Solidarity Movement or ISM), 6 major Muslim groups that promote BDS in the US, 14 other groups that are active in promoting BDS, and 12 actors/musicians and public figures (like Roger Waters) who advocate for BDS and should have been added.
It’s clear that the officially released BDS blacklist just scratched the surface. However, it is a step in the right direction and those who support Israel should continue to uncover and expose groups who promote anti-Israel propaganda, delegitimizing of the Jewish State, and BDS activities.
