What is the BDS Movement?
The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (also known as BDS or the BDS Movement) is an organization with the mission of increasing international pressure on Israel by employing an economic and cultural boycott of Israel. BDS maintains this is in response to the Jewish “occupation and colonization of land” and in order to secure “justice for Palestinians.” The BDS Movement envisions accomplishing “justice for Palestinians” through revitalizing the old Arab League Boycott (organized before Israel’s Independence… before there was even an Israel to boycott) and through pandering to international audiences by misrepresenting facts. BDS also uses tactics such as manipulating emotion-laden imagery of Nazi Germany and apartheid-era South Africa in order to elicit outrage and propagate antisemitic tropes of Jewish power and wealth. In their decade-old quest of championing “human rights,” BDS has consistently focused their efforts to attack every aspect of Israel’s historical, legal, political, economic and cultural identity, in hopes of undermining and delegitimizing Israel’s right to exist.
DEFINITELY, MOST DEFINITELY WE OPPOSE A JEWISH STATE IN ANY PART OF PALESTINE. NO PALESTINIAN, RATIONAL PALESTINIAN, NOT A SELL-OUT PALESTINIAN, WILL EVER ACCEPT A JEWISH STATE IN PALESTINE.Omar Barghouti
WHEN PEOPLE CRITICIZE ZIONISTS, THEY MEAN JEWS. YOU’RE TALKING ANTI-SEMITISMRev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Under the guise of “pro-human rights,” they damage efforts to promote peace in Israel by openly rejecting peace negotiations and by covertly harming efforts of economic cooperation and social normalization. This not only hurts the Israeli Arabs that wish to live peacefully in Israel and to contribute to the advancement and modernization of the State, and goes against their “mission” of “Palestinian justice”, but exposes their true objective: harming Israel.
The BDS movement preys on the misinformed
This global campaign, which discriminates against Israelis, Jews, and their economic partners, not only manipulates uninformed international audiences- who have little knowledge regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict- but also aims to hurt Israel by fostering antisemitism. They encourage anti-Israel (i.e. anti-Jewish) sentiment by infusing their campaign with old anti-Semitic tropes like Jewish blood libels, Jewish control of wealth and media, and grossly distorted propaganda.
Natan Sharansky created a 3D Test of Antisemetism (explained below), in 2004, to distinguish legitimate criticism of Israel from covert antisemetism. Not only does the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions Movement fail the test on all accounts, simply the language in their stated goals fail Sharansky’s 3D Test of Antisemetism.
SINGLING OUT ISRAEL FOR OPPROBRIUM AND INTERNATIONAL SANCTION—OUT OF ALL PROPORTION TO ANY OTHER PARTY IN THE MIDDLE EAST—IS ANTI-SEMITIC, AND NOT SAYING SO IS DISHONEST.Thomas Friedman
The BDS Movement claims to discriminate against Israel and all of her citizens, goods, and contributions to humanity for the sake of “human rights”. But it does not take much scrutiny to see that their main goal, to harm Israel, has been at the forefront of their campaign and they will truly stop at nothing to wipe Israel off the map, or as they put it, “from the river to the sea”.
3D TEST OF ANTISEMITISM
The 3D Test of Antisemitism is a set of criteria put forth by Natan Sharansky to distinguish legitimate criticism of Israel from non-legitimate antisemitism. The three Ds stand for Delegitimization, Demonization, and subjecting Israel to Double standards.
